Question 1

What is Scrim?

Accepted Answer

Scrim is a macOS screen privacy utility that creates persistent, floating overlay masks to hide sensitive on-screen content during screen sharing, presentations, livestreams, and demos. It runs entirely offline with zero telemetry and is a one-time purchase starting at $6.

Question 2

How does click-through mode work?

Accepted Answer

When click-through is enabled, Scrim makes the overlay window completely transparent to mouse events. You can select code, type, click links, and interact with application UI directly under the mask while keeping the private content hidden from viewers.

Question 3

Does Scrim capture or record my screen?

Accepted Answer

Never. Scrim operates completely locally and sandboxed. It does not contain telemetry or internet-facing components. Screen Recording permissions are required by macOS solely so Scrim can position floating mask layers securely over other applications.

Question 4

How many Macs are allowed per license?

Accepted Answer

It depends on your plan. Solo covers 1 Mac, Duo covers up to 3 Macs, and Ultra covers unlimited Macs. Whatever your plan, you can deactivate a device anytime from within the app and move your license to a new Mac.

Question 5

How much does Scrim cost?

Accepted Answer

Scrim is a one-time purchase with no subscriptions or recurring fees. There are three plans: Solo at $6 for 1 Mac, Duo at $12 for up to 3 Macs, and Ultra at $29 for unlimited Macs. Every plan includes all future updates for free.

Question 6

Does Scrim work on multiple monitors?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Scrim supports multi-monitor setups. You can create and position masks independently on each connected display. Masks persist across monitor arrangements and workspace changes.

Question 7

Can I customize mask appearance?

Accepted Answer

Absolutely. Scrim offers multiple mask styles including frosted glass blur, solid blackout, and soft tint modes. You can adjust opacity, color, corner radius, and save custom presets for different workflows.

Question 8

What macOS version is required?

Accepted Answer

Scrim requires macOS 15.0 (Sequoia) or later. It is built natively in Swift and SwiftUI for optimal performance and full system integration.
